Having Your Own Timeline
I'm 22. At this age, most of us have just graduated college last year, are graduating this year, or will graduate next year.
But, for the first 17 or 18 years, everyone's life was pretty much the same - a straight, predictable path. But then we get to college and everyone's path changes. Life changes.
And here's the thing - I learned this somewhere along the way, and I'm damn grateful I did: You have to run your own race. Have your own timeline.
I know, I'm not qualified to give out profound life advice. But this is something I tell everyone who tries to compare themselves to others.
Recently, Marc Randolph, the co-founder of Netflix, shared his whole manifesto about what success means to him. I don't even want you to read what he's written - I just want you to understand the thought behind it. And if a guy like that can define success on his own terms - well, that's powerful.
The sooner we can figure out what success looks like for ourselves, the better. No more comparisons. No more chasing someone else's dream.
That's when we can do great things - running our own race. Setting our own goals. Achieving them on our own timeline.
Having super high standards for ourselves, and super low standards for everyone else. (Most people do the opposite.)
But not you. Not me. We're going to run our own damn race :)
