Your job is not the problem
If you think about it, your job is never the real problem when it comes to doing interesting things.
Many people I know blame their lack of time on working 40-50 hours every week, either in the office or from home. They say they never have time for interesting things.
And by interesting things, I don't mean smoking, drinking, or any of that stuff. People always find time for those activities, even in the most bizarre situations.
I'm talking about:
- Building a side project
- Consulting with another client
- Learning a new skill
- Taking up MMA
Or anything else that you find interesting.
But is a lack of time really the issue?
Let's break it down using some simple math.
Total hours in a week: 24 × 7 = 168
Working hours at a job: 50
Sleeping hours: 7 × 7 ≈ 49
Eating hours: 2 × 7 = 14
Everything miscellaneous: 5 × 7 = 35
Hours left = 20
That's like having 2-3 hours every day, or 9-10 hours on the weekend.
Interestingly, these 20 hours are a concept of part-time jobs outside India where anyone can charge the minimum wage of the country.
If you're reading this from India, you might not understand the significance, so let me explain:
Internationally, 20 hours a week is considered part-time job hours, and they pay $12-15 to anyone who is capable.
So, by making excuses, you're leaving $240-300 on the table every week. According to Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), that's like wasting 4-5k every single week.
Think about it.
